Middle East telcos launch cable consortium

Zain, Vodafone, du and Zajil have teamed up to build a high-bandwidth transmission cable system spanning five countries in the Middle East.

Named the Middle East-Europe Terrestrial System (MEETS), the initiative will see a 100G optical transport network built on top of the mostly dormant 1,400km terrestrial fibre optic cable, in response to the growing data demand across the region.
