Zambia cancels digital migration tender

The Zambian government has rescinded a US$220m contract awarded to Chinese firm Star Software for a digital migration project amid concerns over irregularities over the tender process, according to local reports.

The decision to award the contract to Star Software immediately attracted protests by rivals ZTE and Huawei, who officially appealed the decision.

The termination follows several other similar allegations of corruption involving international telecom and ICT tender processes in Africa, such as Nigeria, Uganda, Algeria and Kenya.
