Brazil set for telco shakeup

Brazilian regulator Anatel is grappling with tectonic shifts in its mobile market as Telefonica bids to take control of Telecom Italia – the owners of the number one (Vivo) and two operators (TIM) respectively. Meanwhile Portugal Telecom and the number four operator Oi announced a long expected merger. The upshot could be disposal of substantial mobile assets as the regulator seeks to maintain a competitive market.
